Topics for Meetings

We've created a couple of lists to help 'break the ice' if needed.  One is a general ice-breaker group, and the other gets a little deeper as we talk about faith.  A goodA leader does not have to comment on any answers unless another question is raised, all conversations should end talking about Christianity of course!

General Icebreaker Questions

 Surface

  • What is the story behind the time you went the longest without sleep?
  •  How would you describe your favorite meal — appetizer, drink, entree and/or dessert?
  • What is a quirky or unusual fear that you have?
  • What's something in you house you want to get rid of but can't? (Please no naming your spouse or children!)
  • What is the biggest way you've changed since you were a child? In what way are you still the same?
  • Have you ever bought something matching with someone or were forced by a family member to wear matching outfits?
  • What was your best/worst surprise?
  • What is one of your biggest pet peeves?
  • What was your first vehicle?
  • As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up and why?
  • If you could eat only one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
  • What has been your favorite road trip or vacation?


Deeper

  • Who has been a spiritual hero in your life?
  • What's one unique role you had in the family you were brought up in? (For example: oldest, baby, funny person, organizer, peacemaker, black sheep.)
  • If you got something spiritual tattooed on your body, what it would be and what would it symbolize? If you already have a spiritual tattoo, why did you get it? What does it symbolize?
  • If you are married, what was the moment you knew you were in love with your spouse? If you are single, what's an important trait you look for in a partner?
  • What is something important a grandparent or older mentor taught you?
  • What book or story has had the biggest impact on you (aside from the Bible)?
  • What is a comfort item you had as a child or something you loved about your bedroom that comforted you?
  • Even if you have moved a lot, everyone has a "heart home." What is that place for you?
  • Take a minute to brag about yourself. What is one accomplishment people might not know about that makes you proud?

Spiritual Conversation Questions

We hope these questions can start the ball rolling on faith and the importance of having a heart for

 

  • In your opinion, how does one become a Christian?
  • What single thing would you like to make absolutely certain you do (if at all possible) during your lifetime?
  • How do you think a person can keep from becoming a workaholic?
  • What character can you imagine yourself to be? (any period of history)
  • What are you reading that is not an assignment or required by your work?
  • How do you know you’ll go to heaven when you die?
  • How are you growing personally?
  • In a conversation with someone who has never heard about God, what would you say about God from your experience?
  • Tell me about your mentor and his/her impact on your life.
  • What do you think would probably surprise most people about you?  Why?
  • What is your greatest strength, and what are you doing to develop it?
  • The Kennedy questions:  First ask–”If you died today, do you know for sure you’d go to heaven?”  Then ask–”If you died and stood before God and He asked you ‘Why should I let you into Heaven?’  What would you say?”
  • Why do people do what they do?  What are the assumptions you make about people?
  • How do you handle pressure?  When the pressure is really on, what do you need from your friends?
  • Has anything ever happened to you that was dramatic, personal or spectacular enough to cause you to be certain there is a God who is both infinite and personally caring?
  • What do you consider to be two major turning points in your life?
  • What is something you consider to be a great personal success?  Why was it so significant?
  • What is the key to maintaining balance in your life?
  • What are 2 or 3 major truths upon which you have based your decision-making?
  • Tell me about a life-long friend and why he/she has such an impact on your life.  What made you choose him or her?
  • How would you describe your mother and the impact she has had on your life?
  • In your opinion, who was/is Jesus Christ?
  • If you could know God personally, would you be interested?
  • What have you found to be the best way of absorbing disappointment, rejection, distress and discouragement?
  • When you get to heaven, what will be the first three questions you will ask God?
  • What do you find most attractive about Christianity/the person of Christ?  What do you find least attractive about Christianity/the person of Christ?
  • Do you consider yourself a seeker of the truth?
  • What is your spiritual background?
  • Have you ever read the Bible?
  • Why do you think you feel the way you do toward Jesus Christ and his message of love and forgiveness?
  • What is your philosophy of life based on?
  • Do you believe what you’ve been brought up with?
  • Why do you think Christianity isn’t relevant to your life?
  • If Christ was who He claimed to be, how would that affect your life?
  • What are you living for? What do you value most?
  • If your questions could be answered in a way that would satisfy you, would you then believe in Christ?
